What I’m Reading (You Should Too)-12/14/2011

Green Lantern #4

Solicitation Text-They’ve pillaged and enslaved his homeworld. Now the fear-mongering Sinestro Corps must face newly reinstated Green Lantern Sinestro. Can the renegade GL liberate Korugar from the army he assembled?

Green Lantern has consistently been one of the most enjoyable titles in the New 52 for me. I can’t wait to see what happens after last issue’s cliffhanger, especially since this isn’t the first time Johns has pulled this stunt. Could we be in for the first New 52 appearance of the Anti-Matter Universe? This is the finest GL has been since Blackest Night in my opinion, so read this book!

Batwoman #4

Solicitation Text-Blood drenches the back alleys of Gotham City in Part four of “Hydrology” – and Batwoman’s life begins to burn!

After reading the first issue of Batwoman it kind of got lost in the hustle and bustle of other books. Now that I’ve trimmed my pull list down considerably I decided to check back in on the book, mainly because I’m a HUGE fan of J.H. Williams the III. Boy, am I glad I did. Not only is this THE best looking book at DC right now, it’s also one of the most interesting. A batbook, not starring Batman, with a supernatural twist and an extremely interesting and diverse cast, comprised almost entirely of females. There aren’t many books like this out there folks, give it a shot.

Avengers X-Sanction #1

Solicitation Text-CABLE IS BACK! AND HE’S GOT JUST 24 HOURS TO WIPE THE AVENGERS FROM THE PAGES OF HISTORY! How has Cable been reborn? Where has he been since “Second Coming”? And what dark event has driven him to destroy the Avengers? The answers are just the tip of an iceberg that threatens to smash the Marvel Universe to smithereens! A crucial new series by the creators behind SUPERMAN/BATMAN and HULK, Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness. THE COUNTDOWN TO 2012’s STATUS QUO-SHATTERING EPIC BEGINS HERE!

How’s that for hyperbole? This 4 issue mini-series kicks off the road to Marvel’s recently announced 2012 event, Avengers vs. X-Men. I’m not the biggest fan of the Avengers, but I’ll definitely be on board for anything big having to do with the X-Men. I’m especially intrigued about Cable’s role in all of this, as well as the hints about the Phoenix from November’s Point One issue. Also, I’m a huge fan of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness. I just hope that this series is substantial and not just pre-event fluff.

Journey into Mystery #632

Solicitation Text-The stage is set for a deadly new year. The most unpopular boy in Asgard receives a certainfour-pawed fire-breathing present. What will Loki dowith this most unwelcome gift? Guest-starring Volstagg!

I’ve heard great things about this series. Most of what I know about the Thor universe comes from this past summer’s blockbuster film and what I’ve picked on wikipedia over the years. I’m a little shaky about why Loki is a kid now, something to do with Siege or Fear Itself maybe? Anyway, I’m on board for this special Christmas issue, which is also supposed to act as a jumping on point for an upcoming story arc entitled “The Terrorism Myth”. This issue features art by Mitch Breitweiser, an alum of my own alma mater Harding University, whom I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. I’m really excited about this one, don’t let me down Marvel.

What I’m Reading (You Should Too)-12/07/2011

A busy Thanksgiving holiday and an extremely slow 5th comic week kept me from publishing my weekly comic picks. Now I’m back, along with the books I’ll be reading this week, and you be should too.
